HOW WE KAPPA
TO SOME OF THE
WOMEN WHO KAPPA
Name: Jackie Gardner
Chapter: Zeta Upsilon Chapter, Georgia Southern
Full-time Occupation: Panhellenic Adviser, UC Berkeley
Volunteer Position: Panhellenic Content Specialist
Years Volunteering with Kappa: 10 years
What talents made you a great match for this role? I have served as a Panhellenic Adviser professionally for two years now and have been actively involved in the fraternity and sorority community since I was an undergraduate.
What makes this role rewarding? I love being able to serve Kappa at an international level. It has been my dream to volunteer in a different capacity and it is now a reality!
What or who is your most impactful Kappa memory or mentor? I will forever remember the night before my little was initiated. I remember singing as she walked up the stairs and her looking at me with so much excitement and anxiousness. To see such an amazing woman become my sister for life was powerful.
In what other places or ways do you give your time and talents? I volunteer locally in Oakland and spend time at the gym or reading.
What is the most important talent or trait to have in this role? I think patience is the most important trait. There is a lot of policy to sort through in this role and it can be overwhelming to go through, but if you take a deep breath and move forward, it all comes together in the end.
What can someone expect by taking on this role? That you will find an amazing role model and mentor in Patty Gesell, Penn State, Kappa’s National Panhellenic Delegate!
